The IAEA General Conference, where the Delegation of Rostechnadzor took part, is being completed

The General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), where the delegation of Rostechnadzor took part, is being completed in Vienna. Delegations from 159 IAEA member states at the level of ministers and leadership of nuclear organizations took part in the Conference, which was opened on Monday of September 22, 2014.

For the period of the Conference the Chairman of Rostechnadzor, Alexey Aleshin, conducted a number of negotiations, including those with Mr. Denis Flory, IAEA Deputy Director General, Ms. Olga Lugovskaya, Head of Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Chevet Pierre-Frank, President of the Nuclear Safety Authority of France.

Moreover, Alexey Ferapontov, Deputy Chairman of Rostechnadzor, participated in the Conference. In Rostechnadzor Mr. Ferapontov supervises the issues of nuclear and radiation safety regulation. Previously this field of Rostechnadzor’s activity was supervised by Mr. Bezzubtsev, who changed his working place.

The IAEA was established in 1957. The Agency was established as an independent inter-governmental organization in the system of United Nations Organization. When the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) was adopted, the Agency’s activity got a particular importance, since the NPT obliged each member state to conclude a Safeguards Agreement with the IAEA. The purpose of the Agency activity in a member state is to ascertain in peaceful use of nuclear energy.
