SEC NRS specialists are taking part in the International Workshop "Lessons Learned from the Integrated Regulatory Review Service Missions"

10.12.2014 The International Workshop “Lessons Learned from the Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) Missions” organized jointly by Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service (Rostechnadzor) and the IAEA commenced its work on December 9, 2014.

When opening the meeting Alexey Aleshin, Chairman of Rostechnadzor, reminded that there were two IRRS missions that had been held in Russia – the initial one in 2009 and the Follow-Up Mission in 2013. “Suggestions and recommendations based on the results of these two missions helped us to enhance and optimize the activity of Rostechnadzor, to update the legal and regulatory framework, and, in total, to increase the efficiency of the Russian safety regulation system in the field of nuclear energy use”, underlined the Chairman of Rostechnadzor.

“Among the Workshop participants there are a lot of representatives from countries, embarking on nuclear power for the first time. I am sure, that all of them will get a lot of useful information in the course of the Workshop, which will allow them to establish a really effective nuclear regulatory infrastructure in their own countries”, Aleshin said.

Denis Flory, IAEA Deputy Director General, Gustavo Caruso, Special Coordinator of IAEA Nuclear Safety Action Team, as well as high-qualified representatives of the leadership level of regulatory authorities of the IAEA Member States arrived to Moscow to take part in the Workshop.

The Workshop participants are to be presented the reports of the IAEA leading specialists and experts about the practice, approaches and lessons from the conduct of IRRS missions, of the representatives from those countries, which have already experienced the full cycle of IRRS missions, as well as those, which are planning or preparing to host the IRRS initial or the follow-up mission.

The International Workshop "Lessons Learned from the Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) Missions" will last up to December 11, 2014.
