43-rd Meeting of the IAEA Commission on Safety Standards

The 43-rd Meeting of the IAEA Commission on Safety Standards (CSS) was held in the Republic of Austria (Vienna) within the period April 11-12, 2018.

The Meeting was attended by the authorized representatives from 25 countries. The representatives from the Russian Federation, namely: Alexey Ferapontov, Deputy Chairman of Rostechnadzor, and Rashet Sharafutdinov, Deputy Director of SEC NRS took part in the discussions of technical assignments for development of the IAEA Safety Standards and in the approval of the draft Safety Standards. 

The Meeting participants shared experience in regulation and expressed their opinions on a number of issues, provided for in the Meeting Agenda. They were informed about essential arrangements, which are planned to be conducted with the IAEA participation, and familiarized with the priority areas of activity of the Committees on Safety Standards. The actual information on the current state of the IAEA regulatory framework was presented. A number of draft documents, as well as technical assignments for development of the Safety Standards, were agreed upon in the course of the Meeting.

The IAEA Commission on Safety Standards executes organization and coordination function for development of the Safety Standards and implements the IAEA Secretariat strategy in the field of rulemaking. The CSS is a continuously functioning working body, which members are the senior officers of the national safety regulatory authorities, whose competence covers the development and enactment of the regulatory documents on nuclear and radiation safety, safety during waste transport and handling. The meetings of the CSS are held on a regular basis, twice a year.
