RB-134-17 has come into effect

On November 16, 2017 the Safety Guide RB-134-17 “Recommended Methods for Assessment and Prediction of Accident Radiological Consequences at Nuclear Fuel Cycle Facilities” has come into effect.

The Safety Guide is intended to be applied by the engineering, design, scientific research and operating organizations in the course of substantiation of safety of nuclear fuel cycle facilities, as well as by Rostechnadzor, when assessing a safety analysis for nuclear fuel cycle facilities.

The Safety Guide includes the methods recommended by Rostechnadzor for assessment and prediction of accident radiological consequences beyond the boundaries of sites of nuclear fuel cycle facilities, caused by releases during accidents at the next nuclear fuel cycle facilities:

• structures, complexes, installations with nuclear material (except for commercial reactors, nuclear research installations, critical or subcritical benches, uranium ore mining sites) intended for production, transport, processing of nuclear fuel and nuclear material;
• structures, complexes, and installations containing radioactive substances and (or) radioactive wastes, located within the territory of a nuclear facility and not envisaged in the design of the nuclear facility;
• stationary facilities and structures intended for storage of nuclear material, radioactive substances, including the facilities and structures, located within the territory of a nuclear facility and not envisaged in the design of the nuclear facility.

Methods for assessment and prediction of accident radiological consequences, caused by releases during the accidents, described in the Safety Guide, can be used for the other nuclear facilities.
