Approval of the Safety Guide RB-141-18

On May 25, the Safety Guide in Atomic Energy Use "Recommendations on the Development of the Acceptance Criteria for Radioactive Wastes to be Disposed in Designing of Near-Surface Radioactive Waste Disposal Facilities" (RB-141-18) has been approved.

The Safety Guide contains the recommendations of Rostechnadzor on fulfillment of the requirements of the Federal Safety Regulations in the field of atomic energy use with regard to the development of the acceptance criteria for radioactive waste, except for the spent sealed sources of ionizing radiation, to be disposed in a certain near-surface radioactive waste disposal facility in the process of its designing (hereinafter to be referred to as the radioactive waste acceptance criteria) in the area of:

• development of a list of radioactive waste acceptance criteria of Classes 3, 4, and 6 in accordance with the classification specified by the regulatory legal acts in the field of atomic energy use for radioactive waste disposal to the designed near-surface radioactive waste disposal facility;
• estimation of values of the regulated indications for the acceptance criteria of radioactive waste to be disposed in the certain near-surface radioactive waste disposal facility.

The Safety Guide is intended to be applied by:

• operating organizations, performing the activity on siting, design and construction of the near-surface radioactive waste disposal facilities, including the National Operator for radioactive waste management;
• organizations, performing works and(or) rendering services to organizations related to siting, design and construction of the near-surface radioactive waste disposal facilities;
• Rostechnadzor specialists, executing licensing of activities related to siting, design, construction, and operation of the near-surface radioactive waste disposal facilities, as well as supervision over the mentioned activities.
