RB-146-18 has been put in force

On August 8, 2018 the Safety Guide “Recommendations on the transition of facilities for keeping non-retrievable radioactive waste to isolation facilities for special radioactive waste and disposal facilities for non-retrievable radioactive waste” (RB-146-18) came into force.

The Safety Guide contains recommendations of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service on the safety provision in the transition process of facilities for keeping special radioactive waste (SRW) and isolation facilities for SRW to another status concerning:

• preparation of facilities for keeping SRW and isolation facilities for SRW for transition to another status;
• development of the program, transition project and safety assessment report during the transition of facilities for keeping SRW and isolation facilities for SRW to another status;
• conduct of engineering and radiation examination of facilities for keeping SRW and isolation facilities for SRW;
• safe implementation of work on the transition of facilities for keeping SRW and isolation facilities for SRW to another status;
• radiation control and monitoring of facilities for keeping SRW and isolation facilities for SRW condition under and after transition to another status.

RB-146-18 addresses facilities for keeping SRW, isolation facilities for SRW and activities concerning the transition of facilities for keeping SRW to isolation facilities for SRW and disposal facilities.

Requirements of the federal rules and regulations in the field of atomic energy use on the transition of facilities for keeping SRW and isolation facilities for SRW to another status may be implemented with the usage of other methods and approaches than those mentioned in this Safety Guide providing that the chosen methods and approaches are justified.
