Meeting of Section 2 “Thermohydrodynamics and multiphysical processes” of the Rostechnadzor Expert Council on Software Validation

Regular meeting of Section 2 “Thermohydrodynamics and multiphysical processes” of the Rostechnadzor Expert Council on Software Validation took place on July 10, 2019 at SEC NRS.

Before the meeting began, SEC NRS Director A.A. Khamaza and participants of the meeting congratulated the Chairman of Section 2 S.L. Soloviev on his jubilee. Congratulatory address for S.L. Soloviev was signed by E.O. Adamov, L.A. Bolshov, and A.A. Khamaza. Mr. Soloviev was awarded with Certificate of Honor by SEC NRS for many years of commitment and achievements in the development of activities of the Rostechnadzor Expert Council on Software Validation.

At the meeting the following software was accepted for review:

• ”STAR CCM+” (on the application of IBRAE RAN and JSC NIKIET) which is aimed at the conduct of calculations of laminar and turbulent stationary and non-stationary flows of liquid-metal coolant and heat exchange with solid-state elements of reactor unit equipment;
• “TOXI+RISK 5” (on the application of STC “Industrial Safety”) which is aimed at calculations of emergencies with hazardous material release consequences;
• “ASSOT” (on the application of JSC NIKIET) which is aimed at the assessment of parameters of coolant leakage in equipment and piping system of repeated forced circulation circuit of Smolensk NPP Unit 3;
• “TIGRSP” (on the application of OKB “GIDROPRESS”) which is aimed at conduct of thermohydraulic calculations for justification of VVER reactor core fuel assemblies cooling reliability in stationary conditions;
• “DINAR” (on the application of JSC NIKIET) which is aimed at simulation of stationary conditions, reactor transients and emergency operating conditions in lead-cooled fast reactors;
• “NOSTRA” (on the application of NRC “Kurchatov Institute” which is aimed at conduct of joint neutron-physical and thermohydraulical calculations in VVER reactors;
• “ANSYS (version 11)” (on the application of JSC “Afrikantov OKB Mechanical Engineering”) which is aimed at conducting calculations of thermal conditions of structural components, equipment and pipelines of a nuclear facility.

Software review results were examined:

• “SOKRAT-BN/B2” (IBRAE RAN) which is aimed at simulation of normal operation disruptions, design-basis and beyond-design-basis accidents with core disruption in sodium-cooled fast reactors;
• “PRISMA-M (version 2.0)” (JSC NIKIET) which is aimed at control and calculation of reactor core operating parameters in RBMK-1000 operation.

Besides, preliminary results of proposals drafting concerning the contents of safety guide “Recommendations on evaluation of errors and uncertainties of the results of NPP calculation safety analysis” were discussed at the Section meeting.

The Rostechnadzor Expert Council on Software Validation was established under Rostechnadzor in order to implement Article 8 of the “Procedure for review of software used in order to create simulation models of processes which exert influence on safety of nuclear facilities and (or) activities in the field of atomic energy use” approved by the Order of Rostechnadzor No 325 from July 30, 2019 (registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation on November 12, 2018, No 52650).

Regulation on the Expert Council was approved by Rostechnadzor Order No 655 from December 27, 2018. Major objectives of the Expert Council comprise assessment of software review results and drafting proposals concerning the contents of Software Certificate.

Section 2 “Thermohydrodynamics and multiphysical processes” of the Expert Council comprises representatives of Rostechnadzor, SEC NRS, NRC “Kurchatov Institute”, Rosenergoatom, VNIIAES, JSC “Atomenergoproekt”, JSC NIKIET, JSC “ATOMPROEKT”, JSC “Afrikantov OKB Mechanical Engineering”, OKB “GIDROPRESS”, IBRAE RAN, FSUE “Alexandrov Scientific Research and Technological Institute”, RFNC-VNIIEF, Russian Federal Nuclear Center — Zababakhin All—Russia Research Institute of technical Physics, RIAR, Leipunsky Institute of Physics and Power Engineering, JSC “EREC”, JSC “Krasnaya Zvezda”, NRNU MEPhI, ITCP “PRORYV”, TESIS.
